Although it’s a few days later than I had originally planned, I’m so happy to bring you the gorgeous real wedding of Alishia and Neil! You may know Alisha on Twitter (@Chicagowife) and that’s how I met the new wife. She’s one of the sweetest, most supportive Twitter friends I have. Whenever I’m having a rough day/hard time, she’s the first to respond with a sweet and uplifting tweet. So thank you Alisha for being so sweet and letting me feature your gorgeous wedding!
Chicago is one of my favorite cities, for the high rise buildings, Lake Michigan, magnificent mile and navy pier. The city’s energy and natural beauty was captured perfectly by Alix Klingerberg. Alisha and Neil were married at the Vola Wine Bar, a boutique style restaurant and wine bar that has a perfect outdoor wedding area. Alisha wore a simple, but gorgeous, dress from JCrew and converse sneakers and Neil wore a blue tie from Jenny Yoo with a grey suit and matching converse sneakers. The couples ecclectic and comfortable style was replicated throughout the whole wedding. Now I’ll let you see pictures and hear about the wedding from the bride’s point of view!
I’m pretty sure I was all shaky and giddy walking over to him [for our first look]. I’ve gotta admit – it was pretty awesome 🙂 Once I saw him, it was like nothing else that day mattered. I hate myself for sounding so corny, but its true. I sort of just stopped caring about whether or not we were going to have awesome pictures or if our families would have fun at the reception or if the cake was going to taste good or if it was going to rain. We were together and that was what mattered.
When time came to walk down the aisle, Neil went first to the song “Your Hand in Mine“. They had a traditional Jewish ceremony with a unique reading chosen by them.
After the ceremony, it was time to get the party started! They hosted a cocktail style reception with endless varieties of appetizers.
The flowers were done by Elizabeth at Arai Garden, a local flower shop in Chicago.
The wedding cake was made by Neil’s aunt, and was a traditional Jamaican style cake with pink and white flowers.
In choosing what song to dance to, we decided to bare it all and use what has always been “our song” – Keith Urban’s Memories of Us. I remember listening to the song together for the first time – it was our first or second date and Neill was driving me home.Let’s just say, we had a moment. It has been our song every since.
